“When woman support each other, incredible things happen.”

The best aspect about being a woman is “When woman get together and work together! Woman empowerment is something so powerful- when woman come together they are a force to be reckoned with.”

Samu feels that woman’s day is all about showing appreciation to woman in the world. Samu’s favourite movie is The Devil wear Prada! “The character Miranda Pricely is such a strong female figure who showed that being a female does not limit you from being in a top position , career wise.” She will be celebrating woman’s day with a few of her friends and just stay at home with the family.

Woman figures who inspire her is : Rihanna, Meryl Streep, Sabrina Claudio- who is an up and coming artist ad her mom. The single biggest issue currently facing woman is “Woman are the biggest victims of rape culture; a large number of woman face sexual assault and we hear about it every day.” Samu would like to see young girl of the next generation walking around freely without the fear of being victims of sexual assault.

Her woman weapon is, “A high waisted mini shirt in the colours of black or grey, and this I believe woman should not be looked down upon for wearing short skirts, if a woman feels confident in wearing short skirts, she should rock ém!”

Tahlia Khama.

“I alone can not change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.” – Mother Teresa

The best aspect about being a woman is “Being able to achieve the impossible!” Woman’s day remind Tahlia about the struggles that woman have faced but also the strength in the choices they made, to march in unity.

Tahlia will be celebrating her Woman’s day with wonderful woman at lunch. Female figures who inspire Tahlia are her grandmother; Lady Ruth Khama, her mother, and princess Diana. Her favorite series is Game of Thrones, due to the strong female character of Daenerys Targaryen.

The single biggest issue currently facing woman is that there is still a bias towards men in the working industry, although racism has been present in history, many people forget sexism exists amongst all races. The main change that she would like to see for young girls in the next generation is for girls to lift each others spirits, to support one another, but most importantly- to connect to their inner beings in order to share light with each other. With winged liner and voluptuous hair, Tahlia feel that she can take on the world!

“Well behaved women rarely make history.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

The best aspect about being a woman is that only we as woman understand each other, it is like living in a little magical world, which men don’t usually understand. Woman’s Day to me is about women being able to go against certain norms and expectations and it has been shown in history that if we stand together, we can tumble the towers!

My favourite movie, is The Dressmaker, which I watched recently and its about a woman who was wronged at a young age and then she return to her little town to take revenge on the people who wronged her, and despite the fact that she makes houte couture items for the people in the town, it indicates that no matter what you wear, on the inside you will remain the same.

On Woman’s day I will be painting my nails, spoil myself with a hot bath (including candles and bubble bath) and watch movies all day long. (Check out my post of yesterday on what movies to watch on Woman’s Day!)

Female figures who inspire me are Cara Delevigne, for going against the norms of beauty which the society has set, my mom for learning me that I can do anything, Twiggy, for introducing the mini skirt and Gloria Steinem who is the mother of femininsm as she led the women’s liberation movement throughout the 60’s and 70’s.

There are so many issues that woman face each day, some even starting before little girls are born, which is the issue of sex-selective abortions, when little girls have concurred that milestone, many of them face problems such as female genital mutilation, then when growing up woman face domestic violence, stalking, human trafficking. Not only are these serious issues, but woman are constantly judged by their appearance, we should wear bra’s and cover up, but if you cover up too much that is also a problem. Woman are not treated equally, when we try to do things which men are doing we are judged as being butch or a tomboy. The main change that I would like to see for young girls in the next generation is equality in the work place, dress codes and just to be treated with respect.

My woman weapon is lipstick, my gemstone necklace which radiates positive energy and a push up bra, then I have all the confidence in the world and I feel I can take on anything!

Chanel Todd.

“ Successful women don’t compete, they collaborate.”

I think the best thing about being a woman is this day and age is to be able to have the freedom to wear makeup, heels and cute clothing. Woman’s day to me is about celebrating women and how important we are to this society. I also think it is important to have a day set aside to make women feel worthy as we are way too often unappreciated.

My favorite series is the Big Bang Theory and that is because Penny puts up with all of those idiots’ shit! My plans on Woman’s Day will be to celebrate my brothers 22nd birthday with the family. He was my mother’s very special gift for Woman’s Day.

My ultimate role model is Rolene Strauss, she is the previous Miss South Africa and Miss World. The moment I met the Miss South African finalists for her year, I knew she would take the crown, for both miss SA and Miss World. She is absolutely stunning and intelligent.

I would like to see young girls have a lot of confidence in themselves and not let other’s opinions bother them. I also hope that they gain a lot of respect towards themselves and just be who they are.My woman weapon is a full face of makeup, black tights, sneakers, a cap and a funky top. It is a comfy outfit and I can dance the night away in it!

Nondumiso Fayela.

“You were never created to live depressed, defeated, guilty, condemned. You were created to be victorious.”

The best thing about being a woman is being able to embrace all the negativity that life throws at you. Woman’s day to me is about a marginalised gender that comes together to retain their freedom. My favourite movie is ‘A Diary of a Mad Black Woman’, it describes the stereotypes of being black and being a woman. It is a movie in which the viewer can learn a lot from.

On Woman’s Day I will be in Commissioner Street celebrating the artistic values of hair. Woman figures who inspire me is my mom, sister, cousin and best friends; Kat, Ked, Tshepang and Masego.

The single biggest issue currently facing woman is that everybody sees feminism as a weak and most woman are afraid to embrace that. Main changes which I would like to see for future generations is that woman should learn to love themselves; self love is the most important. Woman should also value themselves. Be comfortable in your own skin and aim high at all times.
My woman weapon is red lips, heels and nail art, with lashes of course! This combo makes me feel on top of the world. It makes me extra happy and carefree.

Thanks for reading! What are your plans on this wonderful day?

And what are some issues which you think woman face on a daily base (and how can this be fixed), let’s get chatting!

  2. Hi Anel and others, your views are really inspiring to me as a female and mother. I hope I can change my own behaviour in order to support my two female children as well as other woman.
